Dr. Linda's Story

As a graduate student in Fort Worth, TX on a very limited budget, I used Planned Parenthood for contraceptive services, pelvic examinations, and basic check-ups like checking blood pressure and low iron in the blood. I did not have health insurance through the school -- it was the 1973-1977 time period before universities were offering health plans to students AND I had aged out of my parents' health plan, as I was 21 years of age when starting grad school.

I continued to use Planned Parenthood after graduation for basic health screening, pelvic examinations, and contraceptives before my employers offered health insurance when I moved to Philadelphia. After I had health insurance, I continued to use Planned Parenthood for a number of years because the staff at the offices were warm and caring. Unfortunately, some GYN practitioners I had consulted in the region cannot be described as warm and caring.

I've continued to financially support Planned Parenthood through today (I am now 70 years old) because you offer an invaluable service to teens, young adults and other adults who are without insurance and need your services. Thank you for being a shining light in our great city.
